Scenic Drive to Belogorka Waterfall
Just beyond the bustle of Bishkek lies Belogorka Waterfall — a stunning, peaceful escape into nature. I’d heard it was one of the best day trips from the city, so I joined a tour organized by Apple Hostel. It turned out to be one of the most unforgettable days of my time in Kyrgyzstan.
Our drive from Bishkek lasted about an hour and a half. Along the way, the scenery was breathtaking. Valleys opened wide before us, framed by towering mountains. We passed small towns and quiet villages. Children played near roadside streams and waved at our van. Meanwhile, locals herded sheep and cattle in open fields. The peaceful rhythm of life felt timeless.

On the Trailhead
Eventually, we reached the trailhead near Belogorka Waterfall and parked. The waterfall was barely visible, cascading like a white ribbon against cliffs. From there, the hike began along a gentle slope beside the river. The path was easy but had muddy patches and narrow turns. We stayed alert.
Along the trail, we met locals enjoying their Friday hikes. Some families had picnic spots on flat rocks and grassy cliffs. The smell of fresh bread and grilled meats filled the air. Laughter echoed from the hillsides. It felt like witnessing a special community moment immersed in nature.

Getting Closer
With every step, the waterfall grew larger. The white ribbon transformed into a thunderous cascade. As the path narrowed, it wound alongside the river’s contours. The rushing water grew louder.
We crossed a shallow stream and rounded a bend. Suddenly, there it was: Belogorka Waterfall in it’s full glory.
It was massive.
Water plunged down a jagged cliff scraping the sky. It crashed onto rocks below with immense power. The ground vibrated beneath our feet. Cool mist drifted over us in waves. Immediately, temperature dropped sharply. Summer heat gave way to crisp mountain air. The contrast was striking.
Face to Face with Belogorka Waterfall
Everyone stopped in their tracks. We stood still, absorbing the scene. You don’t realize the waterfall’s height until you’re beneath it. Craning your neck, you follow the water to the top. Honestly, it felt unreal — like a dream or movie scene.
Slowly, we moved closer, stepping carefully on slick, mossy rocks. The mist turned into a full spray. Within minutes, we were soaked. Some wore ponchos. However, most laughed and embraced the spray. The icy droplets were refreshing — sharp and energizing.
Eventually, we found a dry spot and rested. Excitement faded, and cold caught up. With clothes soaked and wind blowing through the valley, it felt freezing. Still, none minded. It was part of the raw, wild experience.

Final moments
The hike back felt like crossing seasons. Leaving misty, cool air, we reached the sunlit path. Warmth quickly dried our clothes. At the van, we lingered a while. We admired mountain views and watched horses graze nearby.
The drive back to Bishkek was quiet. This calm followed a great day perfectly. Stunning scenery, a refreshing hike, and a glimpse into local life made it special. A visit to Belogorka Waterfall is easily one of the highlights of any trip to Bishkek.
