Kol-Tor is one of the most wonderful lakes of the northern Tien Shan. The lake is located in the Kegeti gorge of the same name in the intermountain cavity of the Kungei Ala-Too Range at an altitude of 2725 meters above sea level.
The lake is famous for its unusually beautiful turquoise color. The process of glacial melting washes away the soil and grinds stones and rocks into dust, thereby causing the lake to sparkle with a green-blue color in the bright sunlight. The bowl of the lake overlows from time to time, affecting the stream itself as well. The area around the lake is distinguished by a variety of forest berries and medicinal herbs, which grow here in abundance. According to many travellers, the pristine beauty of the lake is captivating at first glance and makes you come back again and again.
