Kol-Tor is one of the most wonderful lakes of the northern Tien Shan. The lake is located in the Kegeti gorge of the same name in the intermountain cavity of the Kungei Ala-Too Range at an altitude of 2725 meters above sea level.
Kol-Tor lake is famous for its unusually beautiful turquoise colour. The process of glacial melting washes away the soil and grinds stones and rocks into dust, thereby causing the lake to sparkle with a green-blue colour in the bright sunlight.
The bowl of the lake overflows from time to time, affecting the stream itself as well. The area around Kol-Tor lake is distinguished by a variety of forest berries and medicinal herbs, which grow here in abundance. According to many travellers, the pristine beauty of the lake is captivating at first glance and makes you come back again and again.
The hike to the lake requires an average level of fitness and requires a basic understanding of hiking. The hike is around a 15km round-trip.
The day will start with a private transfer from Apple Hostel Bishkek to Kol-Tor. You’ll then jump to horseback with the help of our local guide.
